The new web conferencing mic built for use with Zoom video software made a big splash at the show, taking home two industry awards and generating lots of conversations from integrators and end-users about its potential.
This year’s InfoComm held record-setting attendance numbers, with over 43,000 attendees and a total of 964 exhibitors representing every U.S. state and more than 150 countries worldwide. In this sea of Pro AV/UCC professionals and products, the MXL AC-360-Z stood out to win two coveted Best in Show awards from Commercial Integrator Magazine and AV Technology Magazine.
The awards come during a pivotal time in the industry, and for MXL as well, as video web conferencing grows rapidly into today’s modern work environments. The show featured many software companies exhibiting their latest technologies to bring working professionals together for productive video-enabled meetings, and the growth is only expected to continue.
One of the most popular service providers in this space is Zoom Video Communications out of San Jose, Calif. By bringing easy-to-use video meeting software into the corporate setting, installers and end-users are both clamoring for more “Zoom Rooms” to be installed in buildings all over the world, so companies can connect their employees quickly and easily for group communication.
The MXL AC-360-Z was built in coordination with engineers at Zoom, enabling it to auto-adjust itself with Zoom’s acoustical-optimization software to any room configuration within 10 seconds, delivering crystal-clear sound and picking up audio in a full 360°.
As integrators and end-users came by the booth, it was apparent that the MXL AC-360-Z was a point of interest, and by the show’s end it had claimed two well-deserved industry awards.
Commercial Integrator, a leading magazine covering professional AV installers and UCC integrators, awarded the AC-360-Z Best Microphone at the show, and AV Technology Magazine awarded it a Best of Show award on the final day of the show.
Matt Pruznick, content director of AV Technology, spoke of the deep field of entries this year, “This year’s strong field of entries is emblematic of the current outpouring of innovation in our industry,” Pruznick said. “The bounty of these companies’ engineering, research and development, and user design efforts were on full display on the show floor, and narrowing the field down to a select group of winners was not an easy task. I offer my heartiest congratulations to the winning companies, and look forward to seeing how their products help technology managers transform their facilities over the coming years.”
MXL Division Manager Scott Krueckeberg [left] also sat down for an interview on the show floor with Tom LeBlanc, editor for Commercial Integrator, to talk to him about the new AC-360-Z and MXL’s 30-year history of producing high-quality, studio-caliber recording microphones. The awards mark a nice feather in the cap for the AC-360-Z as it gears up for full production in 2018. Many installers were already familiar with the AC-404, a phenomenally successful USB microphone, and now with the AC-360-Z enabling a full 360° sound pickup and collaboration with Zoom Video software, the AC-360-Z has many professionals eager to put this new microphone to use.
